Artist's Technique

I grew up as an artist. At nine years old, unsolicited,  I received a 6 piece commission.  My parents collected Japanese scrolls and screens. My grandmother had an art gallery in Chicago and owned Picasso, Matisse, Degas, and Toulouse Lautrec prints.

As a painter I try to honor the classic values and esthetics that ruled the Paris Salon. I use all the traditional painting techniques of watercolor, oil, and acrylic. I have advanced the Art of Painting, however, by using 3d computer renderings as my reference material.

My first hundred paintings were watercolors.

During my commercial art career I pursued the realism possible using acrylic paint.
I did a series of figurative oil paintings to learn oil techniques.

During my computer game career I realized I could make my own 3d models  and pose them in the computer.  This allowed me complete control over the lighting and composition.
I then render an image as a visual reference for my painting - from any angle I choose.
Finally I create a traditional painting.
